Privacy policy
Music Time Machine is a static website with no user accounts and no profile form. This policy explains the information stored in your browser and the third-party services that may receive technical data when the site or an embedded player is used.
1. Information handled by this site
The site does not ask for a name, password, payment information, precise location, or personal profile. If you email the contact address, the email provider processes the address, message, and any information you choose to include so the inquiry can be answered.
The hosting provider, Cloudflare, may process ordinary web-request and security information such as IP address, request time, requested URL, browser or device information, and diagnostic or abuse-prevention signals. That processing is controlled by Cloudflare's terms and privacy documentation.
Optional performance reporting
Anonymous performance reporting is disabled by default. If you enable it in the player, Music Time Machine sends Core Web Vitals or limited error codes with only the page path, interface language, region, selected year, and release. It does not send song or artist names, YouTube IDs, birth-year input, full query strings, account identifiers, error messages, or stack traces.
You can turn reporting off or delete its local preference in the player. Cloudflare may still process ordinary request and security data for the reporting request as described above.
2. Local browser storage
The player can use localStorage for mtm-region (music region), mtm-ui-language (interface language), mtm-likes (tracks saved on this device), mtm-history (recent year and region), mtm-history-enabled (your history preference), and mtm-telemetry (your optional performance-reporting preference). Region and language are stored only after you choose them; opening the site alone does not create those preferences. These values are not sent to a Music Time Machine account because no such account exists.
Recent history is disabled by default. When enabled, entries older than 90 days are ignored. Saved tracks remain until you delete them. The player includes separate controls to stop saving history, clear history, or delete all Music Time Machine local data.
The optional birth-year field is evaluated only in the browser to select a listening year. Its value is not stored or sent by Music Time Machine.
3. YouTube embedded playback
The player uses YouTube's IFrame Player API. The site delays all YouTube script and iframe loading until a visitor explicitly chooses Play and uses YouTube's privacy-enhanced embed domain where supported. Loading or using the player can still allow YouTube and Google to receive technical information and to process cookies or similar identifiers under their own policies.
Privacy-enhanced mode limits use of an embedded view for personalization; it does not make YouTube a first-party service of Music Time Machine or remove all data processing. Video availability, regional restrictions, advertising inside a video, and YouTube account features remain controlled by YouTube.
4. External actions
The site uses system fonts and does not request font files from Google Fonts. Links to third-party sites are ordinary links and send a request to the named provider only after you activate them.
The Lyrics button opens a Google Search query containing the displayed artist and song title. That request is sent only after the visitor activates the button and is then governed by Google's privacy policy.
5. Google AdSense
The site has applied to use Google AdSense, but AdSense advertising is not currently enabled or served. If advertising is enabled in the future, Google and its partners may use cookies, web beacons, IP addresses, or similar technologies to deliver, measure, secure, and personalize or limit ads as permitted by law and the visitor's choices. Advertising is not required to use the player or read the archive.
Where consent is required, a Google-certified consent management mechanism will be used before relevant advertising storage or personalized advertising is activated. Visitors can review Google's explanation of data use and available advertising controls at the links below.
6. Children, retention, and international access
The service is a general-audience music discovery site and is not directed to children under 13. Music Time Machine does not knowingly create child profiles or request personal information from children.
Local-storage values remain on the device under the retention rules above until the visitor or browser removes them. Email is retained only as reasonably needed to handle the inquiry, document a correction or rights request, and prevent abuse. Hosting and third-party service data may be processed in countries where those providers operate, subject to their policies and applicable safeguards.
7. Questions and changes
The Music Time Machine editorial team determines catalog, correction, rights-request, and privacy decisions. OPTIWORK designed and developed the website and is not the service operator or data controller unless separately identified for a specific processing activity.
