These terms describe the Music Time Machine website, its editorial limits, and the relationship between this site and third-party services. By using the site, you agree to use it lawfully and understand that embedded media remains controlled by its provider.
1. The service
Music Time Machine provides a free year-centered music discovery interface and an independent editorial archive. It organizes references to recordings, adds listening notes and regional comparisons, and links to explanatory guides. It does not provide user accounts, sell music, host audio or video files, or offer media downloads.
The service may change as dates, titles, video availability, editorial framing, and catalog coverage are corrected. A published selection is not a guarantee that a recording will remain available or that it will never be revised.
2. Editorial status
The archive is a curated listening aid, not an official chart, academic database, or definitive history. A selected track illustrates an editorial comparison; it does not establish that the track was the best, most popular, or universally representative recording of a place or year.
Release dates can differ across original issue, album appearance, international release, reissue, and later chart activity. The year displayed by the player is a listening-window label and must not be read as a guaranteed original release date. The site welcomes evidence-backed corrections, and commercial payment does not determine inclusion.
3. YouTube and other external services
Embedded playback is supplied by YouTube under YouTube's own terms, policies, availability rules, and technical controls. Copyright and other rights in the underlying recordings and videos remain with their respective owners. Music Time Machine's use of a public embed reference does not imply sponsorship, endorsement, ownership, or affiliation.
By choosing YouTube playback in Music Time Machine, you agree that the YouTube Terms of Service also apply to use of the embedded player. Review the Music Time Machine Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy before playback.
A video may be removed, made private, region-restricted, age-restricted, monetized, or disabled for embedding without notice from this site. External links may also change. Review the third party's terms and privacy information before using its service.
4. Acceptable use
You may browse, listen through available embeds, use the site's own sharing links, and quote limited editorial material with attribution as allowed by law. You may not use the site to bypass access controls, extract or redistribute media contrary to a rights holder's terms, interfere with operation or security, submit malicious code, impersonate another person, or send abusive or deceptive reports.
Automated access that places unreasonable load on the site or third-party services may be limited. Nothing in these terms grants a license to music, videos, trademarks, or third-party material beyond the permissions provided by the applicable owner or service.
5. Site text and design
Original site text and organization may be protected by applicable copyright and other laws. The Music Time Machine interface and website were designed and developed by OPTIWORK. Artist names, song titles, label names, video thumbnails, and other third-party identifiers belong to their respective owners and are used for identification and commentary.
The Music Time Machine editorial team operates the archive and determines catalog, correction, rights-request, and privacy decisions. OPTIWORK is the website designer and developer, not the service operator or data controller.
6. Availability and disclaimer
The service is provided on an “as available” basis. Reasonable care is taken to maintain navigation, editorial notes, and video references, but the site does not promise uninterrupted operation, complete catalog coverage, or error-free metadata. Use the archive as a discovery and comparison tool and verify important historical claims with authoritative sources.
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Music Time Machine is not responsible for third-party service outages, removed or restricted media, external-site content, or losses caused by relying on an unverified catalog entry. Nothing here excludes rights or remedies that cannot lawfully be excluded.
7. Privacy, advertising, and changes
The privacy policy explains local browser storage, hosting, YouTube, Google services, and possible advertising technologies. If advertising is introduced, it will remain separate from editorial selection and subject to applicable disclosure and consent requirements.
These terms may be updated to reflect service, legal, or policy changes. The effective date will be changed when a material revision is published. Continued use after publication means the revised terms apply from that date, subject to applicable law.
